Travel award for Life writer
A travel writer for Archant Life’s France Magazine has scooped the prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) travel award for Best European (non-UK) feature.
Judy Armstrong’s October 2008 article Pony Tales, deals with the fascinating topic of Pyrenean equine transhumance – the seasonal practice of moving livestock across snow-covered mountains.
Judy’s latest achievement follows her success as the 2008 winner of the travel feature award from ABTOF (the Association of British Travel Organisers to France).
A New Zealander by birth, Judy is well-qualified to write about France as she splits her time between her cottage on the Yorkshire moors and her pied-à-terre in the Alpine town of Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
She said: “France is such an inspiring country to travel in, that these features almost happen on their own. Pony Tales, in particular, was so poignant that I returned in spring for the return journey.”
Pony Tales part II will appear in the February 2010, 20th anniversary edition of France Magazine.
Carolyn Boyd, editor of France Magazine said: “I'm delighted that Judy has, once again, been recognised for her outstanding work in France Magazine. She is one of our most popular writers and with many more stories scheduled for 2010, she will continue to enthrall our readers with her inspirational articles about France.
“Two more of our columnists Stephen Clarke and Carol Drinkwater, have also been shortlisted for a Travel Media Award.”
BGTW is the premier professional association for bonafide journalists, editors, photographers, and radio and film broadcasters working in the travel field. The annual travel awards recognise excellence and achievement in travel writing, photography and broadcasting.
