Simon is new group editor
Simon Irwin has been appointed as the new group editor for Archant Life South East & East and joins the company on November 9.
“Simon takes over from Jonathan Keeble who, over five years grew his role from editor of Sussex Life to group editor with more than 10 monthly titles published by him and his team,” said group publishing director Suzanne Heaven. “Jon is joining the public sector as head of communications for a health service.”
Simon, 48, is a journalist with 25 years experience. He was editorial director of KM Group for six years after joining the company as editor of the Kent Messenger. Before that he worked for The Western Mail, Cardiff; the Derby Evening Telegraph; Radio Hallam in Sheffield; The Star, Sheffield; the Coventry Evening Telegraph and the Mansfield Chad.
He was a member of a number of national press bodies, including the Press Complaints Commission and the Defence, Press and Broadcast Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Defence.
Simon said: "I am delighted to be joining Archant Life at such an interesting time. I am sure that the company's unique portfolio of magazines and websites has a great future and I look forward to playing my part in it."
Simon and his wife Debbie have two children, Jessica, 15, and Charlie, 10. He enjoys spending time with his family, reading and going to the theatre and the cinema. After his father gave him his 50cc scooter, his latent interest in motorcycling, which he gave up almost 30 years ago, has been rekindled. He said he is now “trying to persuade his unwilling wife to let him have a much larger bike!”
